The Pressure to Imagine.

Us humans are the only creature alive known to humanity at this present moment, that are lucky enough to possess the thing we know as imagination. The open-ended ability to imagine and reflect on possibilities that are unreal. It makes us the most dominating species on planet earth. Imagination is something we are all capable of, it is wild, inspiring and produces many beautiful things. Having a vivid imagination is a lucky tool, hold it close and cherish your mind. Think of the moments when you’re able to sit for hours only with the thoughts that are running around in your head. Making up stories, and creating images of things that may not ‘exist’ in this world, but in your world… they do.

There are moments where I find using my imagination puts me under pressure, either if I’m being told to use it in a work/academic environment or when I find myself in the so called “wrong headspace”. For my Bachelors I study Performance Arts, being an artist/performer as well as being a student at a drama school there are often times where I find myself being told to use my imagination, use my creativity to produce ideas on the spot. Immediately I begin to worry that my imagination will not be enough, and my imagination will not provide the tutor or my peers with work representative of me and/or my creativity. When under pressure to be intuitive in the creative realm can at times be detrimental to one's confidence, as there is the end product in sight which might overshadow the moments in between of production which bring excitement and passion. The pressure can make individuals work better or by a decrease in confidence affect the quality and introduce a cycle of doubt.

Imagination comes in many forms, don’t force it, it will come to you, in our moments where we are most serene or perhaps most manic our brains switch off from a reality. We drift into our own psyche, our own world… that is imagination.
